i started this project earlier this year as a way to keep my mind off a lot of things that were happening around me as 2014 rolled in. There is a japanese legend, if you fold 1000 paper cranes then a crane will grant you one wish. maybe if i make 1000 spoons, a spoon will grant me a wish? i put forth the same effort as folding… i at least deserve ice cream
now i kept going with more 1000 pieces
half way there

recently i have been experimenting with color patterns.
The gradient series were my first steps in incorporating color into my nerikomi technique.
when i first started nerikomi i had to make all the perfect precise lines and patterns, which drove me crazy! and when they were fired and finished i was never really happy with the results. it was very pretty, but very rigid and it didn't fit my personality.
then i started mashing them together and liked the results much better! i will never get 2 that are exactly the same, but i like knowing that only one exists
all my spoons get the royal treatment. after they are made i shave them down till i get a really nice patten to come out. after firing, i sand each one to make sure they are uniform and smooth.
